Introduction to Yuanqiao Tortoise
Yuanqiao Tortoise

Chinese name Marginated Tortoise

Common name fantail tortoise

English name Marginated Tortoise

Latin name Testudo marginata

Geographically distributed in Greece and Italy

Growth method is oviparous. The tortoises lay about three clutches of eggs in a row between May and June, with a yield of about 15 eggs at a time. The incubation temperature is about 31.5°C, which lasts for 60 to 100 days.

Habits: This is a breed that is relatively adaptable and less sensitive to changes in food and environment. Their feeding habits are similar to those of common European tortoises. As long as they are fed properly, they will grow very easily. Yuanqiao does not like to drink water, so it is enough to provide fruits and vegetables with high water content.

Body shape characteristics: 30cm~35cm. Weighing about 5 kilograms, the male turtle is larger than the female turtle. The male turtle is characterized by a concave carapace and a thick and long tail. The resting areas are mainly mountainous, and the resting height is about 1,600 meters. Their body shape and color are adapted to this. Changed from alpine survival, the black color of the carapace is useful, because the black carapace is to quickly absorb heat energy during the short period of sunlight and help them maintain body temperature.

Dietary habits: The most important food for tortoises is weeds and compositae. However, for wild tortoises, they will often eat snails and earthworms from the hatchling stage to sub-adults. The closer they get to each other, the more likely they are. Adult food habits tend to be more plant-based.
