The Northern Blog Awards: What is it really like?

Welcome back!

It has been such an emotional  few weeks, with both Mike and I winning at The Northern Blog Awards. Since we have posted about it, we have both had loads of messages asking about the awards, so here is a little blog to give you the full run down of the night.

Firstly, I’m not sure how many times I can say THANK YOU to you all for nominating me, then voting- it honestly means so much. When I started this blog 2 years ago I was miserable in a job that was taking me away from my children more than I wanted. I would leave at 7 am and not get home some days till 7 in the evening. I have missed school plays and missed bedtimes. To some, that would not be that much of an issue and I don’t for one second think any less of mothers who work long hours 5 days a week.

However for us the scales were tipped in the wrong direction and it was making feel like a terrible mother, wife and daughter. When I turned to blogging and Instagram for support I saw a community of mothers and although I enjoyed their content, it felt a little disconnected from my life. So I started to share mine- and somewhere along the line it took off.

Now there are nearly 21 thousand of you on my Instagram page and nearly 2 thousand of you subscribed to the blog. My Facebook and Twitter exist somewhere but I have definitely been more focused on the Blog and Instagram. Now because of you I am proud to say that this is my job. This job has thrown me into the deep end of how to take and edit photographs, work with brands, write and a shed load of other skills, of which I am continually learning. Now, I can be the mother I want to be, whilst working and providing in a way that is flexible but most importantly works for us.

And it is because of you guys, because of YOU.

So, again, THANK YOU.

Now, back to the night itself:

The Awards took place at The Midland Hotel, Manchester.

6pm- Red carpet Arrival. Greeted with a glass of bubbles/ soft drink and time to mingle. There were brands at the event- each with their own little stand. This is a great opportunity to talk to some wonderful brands and get some face to face contact with the people behind the brands. Obviously if you want to have a natter with some new faces or just have a drink and a quiet nosey- there isn’t any pressure. I got to meet one of the most inspirational people on the gram- Debbie from @bowelbabe and it was so lovely to meet her in person after speaking to her on instagram for so long.

7:30- Awards part 1

8pm- 3 course dinner with wine. All allergy requirements are catered for which was great for us.

9:45 The Awards part 2

10:15 Band and DJ- This year was absolutely great. The dancefloor was packed!

Everyone attending gets a goody bag, packed to the brim with amazing things from the sponsors. It is the content creators party. Whether you are nominated or not, I would definitely grab yourself an early bird ticket. They are not on sale yet, but when they are I will link them here.

Please, if you are one of the many who messaged me asking whether you should go next year and you were/are worried about being ‘too small’ or not being consistent enough: go and buy your ticket as soon as they are on sale. Trust me when I say this- It is not cliquey, It is for the recognition of you and of other content creators. Whether you are a blogger, vlogger, instagrammer, new or old it is a great place to be.

There was a new category this year- ‘ones to watch’ So even if you have only just started, it is a great arena to talk to others and be inspired.

Be Inspired. That is one quote I will take away this year.

Hope that has put all of your questions to bed, if not then please do comment below or message me on Instagram!

Lots of Love,

Sammi-Jo xx
